The tarmac at the Palm Beach international airport is 4 feet above see level. Basements in South Florida are very rare for the simple reason that the water table is high and underground construction is very difficult.
The 7 acres and 25 feet underground parking garage at South Miami’s Dadeland mall proves that this type of construction is not impossible and leaves the overground space to be used by structures built for homes, offices, condos, retail space, and other types.
