Polk and Indian river counties are the capitals for Florida delicious citrus production

Florida, also known as the “sunshine state”, produces amongst the best citrus including oranges, grapefruit, pink grapefruit, tangerines, limes, lemons and tangelos.

The entire state is a huge citrus grove but Polk and Indian River counties are the capitals when it comes to citrus production. Polk county is just northwest of Orlando and Indian river is just southeast of Orlando so basically the central Florida region is number 1 in production.

Florida’s FPL will start building a new thermal solar plant

Florida Power Light (FPL) will start building a new thermal solar plant in Martin County of South Florida. Thermal solar energy is the energy produced by the sun’s rays directed via huge mirrors to heat up water which in return produces steam that moves electric turbine generators. This Martiin county energy facility is estimated that it will produce 75 Megawatts.

Palm Beach Realtors help marathon runners

A small group of Realtors members of the “Realtors association of the Palm Beaches” were up and running well ahead the start of the Palm Beach marathon. Around 20 members gathered at 5:30am on Sunday December 7 2008 at the intersection of Olive avenue and Argyle street in West Palm Beach and setup a huge water station to accommodate the 3,500 runners. This 11 mile marker spot was fast and efficient in terms of giving water and Gatorade to runners as they passed by.

Water preservation becomes priority to Volusia county and Port Orange area in Florida

  The existing 75 acres reservoir in east Volusia county will get a helper. A additional 100 acres reservoir will get built to accommodate the needs of the area.  Both of these reservoirs will store reclaimed water to use it for irrigation rather than dumping it to the local river(Halifax river).

Miami-Dade county orders lenders to upkeep foreclosed properties

Miami-Dade county of South Florida voted for lenders of vacant foreclosed properties to be responsible and to upkeep them till they sell them and even prior to foreclosing them. It was also voted for lenders to disclose to potential buyers of foreclosed properties all building and zoning defects.

This is a very important step for bringing some kind of balance in the curb-appeal of a neighborhood. Foreclosed properties are vacant and their exteriors look horrible reflecting negatively for the rest of the neighborhood leading to lower property values.

Harbourside a waterfront mixed use 9+ acres in Jupiter south Florida development maybe breaking ground in spring of 2009

Harbourside is an 9+ acres waterfront mixed use development on the northwest corner of Indiantown road  and US1 in Jupiter of Palm Beach county.

This mixed use waterfront development right on the intracoastal waterway will feature 30 boat slips marina, a 210 room hotel, offices and restaurants. It will take approximately 2 years to complete and providing it get the final “go ahead” by Jupiter town’s officials it will break ground in the spring of 2009.

Florida Crystals are pushing for cleaner energy using Florida sugar canes

“‘Florida Crystals” is already providing electricity to its sugar processing plants in South Florida using wood clippings, and sugar cane fiber. This one of a kind sugar production company and maybe the largest in USA is conducting research along with Florida’s leading universities for producing alternative forms of energy that have less impact to the environment than the current fuels.

Cellulosic ethanol is a byproduct from the sugar production and it is a lot cleaner than the current fuels.
