saks_dadeland_aerial_75.jpg  The tarmac at the Palm Beach international airport is 4 feet above see level. Basements in South Florida are very rare for the simple reason that the water table is high and underground construction is very difficult.

The 7 acres and 25 feet underground parking garage at South Miami’s Dadeland mall proves that this type of construction is not impossible and leaves the overground space to be used by structures built for homes, offices, condos, retail space, and other types.

Right about a mile east from the Breakers hotel in the island of Palm Beach there is a beautiful barrier reef running north south and it is one of the most prettiest reef in the world.

Scuba diving in these waters is basically drift diving because the Gulf stream current blows around 4-7 knots per hour and it is easier to go with the current rather than against it.

This barrier reef that runs for miles from Sebastian to Miami is a pole of attraction for the state of Florida. The Palm Beach segment got destroyed a couple of months ago by watercraft and the state’s respond is very slow so scuba divers started the reef repair. See a video.
